This course aims to enable the participant to be able to identify and understand the role and activities of the key areas of 'pure' investment banking activity, namely, Corporate Finance/Advisory, the debt and Equity Capital Markets. The participant will also learn how the products that support these businesses work in conjunction with one another and how these product work within the various functions in an investment bank, namely, origination, advisory, trading, research, and sales. The programme also seeks to explain the role of the support functions in an investment bank and how they partner the 'front o?ce'. Lastly, the course also describes the typical 'bolt-on' businesses that some of the 'non-pure' investment banks operate in, namely, the Custody business, Private Banking, Asset Management, Retail Broking and Private Equity. At the end of the programme, all delegates should be able to:

  • Describe the typical business and structure of an investment bank
  • Recognise how investment banking products and services ful?ll client needs
  • Understand how client needs in?uence bank structure and services and products o?ered
  • Describe how investment banks manage and mitigate the risks arising from their business activities
